Clogged drains

This morning I woke up to my wife informing me that the toilets were making gurlging noises and the water wasn’t going down in the bathtub. In our front yard is a large elm tree. Beneath that tree is where the builders of the house (who put the tree where it is, following the detailed instructions given them by the city) also ran the main drain line from the house to the city sewer. Thus, every so often the pipe gets clogged and this morning was one of those every so often times.

I opened the clearouts so the water could bubble out and fertilize the rose bushes. Then, after church, I went in search of a place from which to rent a plumber’s snake. A friend at church suggested Home Depot. Unfortunately, the one in Lancaster doesn’t rent stuff, but they happily informed me that the one in Palmdale does, so off I went. After a bit of hassle, I managed to rent the snake, returned home and without too much difficulty used it to clear the clog in the drain.

So, I’m hoping I won’t have gurgling toilets again for another year or two.
