Success as a writer does not come from genius, talent or inspiration. It comes from attention to craft: to learning how to write. It comes from consistent work habits and persistence in the face of rejection. Those writers who get published do so largely because they work hard, write consistently and regularly, finish what they start, and never give up. They are professionals before they receive their first contract.
