The Allen Telescope Array begins operation today. Paul Allen, who also helped bankroll SpaceShipOne, donated large sums to a radio telescope project designed to search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Currently made up of 42 6 meter dishes, it will eventually have 350. For details, there’s a good article at Space.com.
