\nand I will do all that I please.
\nFrom the east I summon a bird of prey;
\nfrom a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
\nWhat I have said, that will I bring about;
\nwhat I have planned, that will I do.
\nListen to me, you stubborn-hearted,
\nyou who are far from righteousness.
\nI am bringing my righteousness near,
\nit is not far away;
\nand my salvation will not be delayed.
\nI will grant salvation to Zion,
\nmy splendor to Israel. (Isaiah 46:8-13)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you\u2019re on. God\u2019s sense of quick bears no resemblance to ours. So we need to have the mind of Christ. <\/p>\n

The Persians\u2014modern day Iran\u2014is to the east of Israel. The \u201cbird of prey\u201d from the east, \u201ca man to fulfill my purpose\u201d is none other than Cyrus the Great. In Isaiah 45:1 God referred to Cyrus as his \u201canointed\u201d\u2014the Hebrew word \u201cmessiah.\u201d Their captivity in Babylon would end and God would use Cyrus as the instrument to destroy the Babylonian empire and to set his people free. Isaiah\u2019s prophesy came about a hundred years before it would come to pass, and yet God said that his \u201crighteousness is near\u201d and \u201cmy salvation will not be delayed.\u201d <\/p>\n

When Isaiah prophesied, the Babylonians hadn\u2019t even yet conquered or attacked Jerusalem. The seventy years of captivity were yet far in the future. Before they even needed salvation from the Babylonians, God was already letting them know that he would save them. From a human standpoint, a hundred years doesn\u2019t seem to be very soon. We become annoyed just waiting a couple of seconds for a web page to come up or two minutes for our food to heat in a microwave. God\u2019s perspective is not nearly as rushed as ours. <\/p>\n
