{"id":2446,"date":"2012-10-01T00:05:04","date_gmt":"2012-10-01T07:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nettelhorst.com\/blog1\/?p=2446"},"modified":"2012-10-01T00:07:19","modified_gmt":"2012-10-01T07:07:19","slug":"2446","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nettelhorst.com\/blog1\/2012\/10\/01\/2446\/","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;ll Always Have Problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are some odd people.  Every time some new space probe is launched, they are quick to complain about the expense.  When there is talk about sending people to Mars or beyond, they will quickly comment, \u201cWe should solve our problems here on Earth before we start gallivanting about the universe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps they are attempting to sound compassionate.  In fact, they simply sound like idiots.  <\/p>\n<p>But then people do this all the time in their day to day lives, too.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need to get my career going before I\u2026\u201d and then fill in the blank.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t have children yet, I\u2019ve got to \u2026\u201d and again, fill in the blank.  <\/p>\n<p>There always seems to be something standing in the way of children, marriage, buying a house, or whatever else we might be putting off because our lives are not yet perfect.  But the hard reality is, to quote John Lennon \u201cLife is what happens to you while you&#8217;re busy making other plans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one is ever ready for marriage. No one is ready for children.  If we waited for our lives to be perfect before we got married or before we had kids, the human race would have died out thousands of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus commented once \u201cThe poor you will always have with you\u201d (Mark 14:7).  His point, of course, is that there will always be things that need our attention.  But we shouldn\u2019t let those things that need fixing stop us from anointing Jesus with perfume before his crucifixion.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s rare to hear anyone say, \u201cI can\u2019t go home yet\u2014I\u2019ve still got paperwork to do.\u201d  If it\u2019s five o\u2019clock on a Friday, they\u2019re out of there.<\/p>\n<p>Or, \u201cI can\u2019t go to the movies, I\u2019ve got to vacuum the carpet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Or, \u201cI can\u2019t watch TV tonight, I\u2019ve got to take care of the homeless in my city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like the person who says, \u201cI\u2019m 45, if I go to college now, I\u2019ll be 49 before I finish.\u201d  True enough, but if you don\u2019t go to college, in four years, you\u2019ll still be 49.<\/p>\n<p>John F. Kennedy gave a speech in 1962 at Rice University.  He said, \u201cWe choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He didn\u2019t deny that there were many problems needing our attention.  He agreed.  He just didn\u2019t think they should stand in the way of going to the moon.<\/p>\n<p>Start your life today; don\u2019t put it off until everything is perfect, or you\u2019ll never start your life at all.  There will never be an end to our problems.
