Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.

COMMENT:

Wisdom promises to give you the best life possible. The format of Proverbs follows that of a father instructing his son. This promise of long life, if the son listens to his father, grows from the first of the ten commandments: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12). Notice what Paul has to say about this, too: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise— ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’” (Ephesians 6:1-3).

Send to Kindle

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.
